This presentation will describe the role of enactments in the experience of patients understood as "difficult," and will review evidence of the limits of a psychiatric view of these patients that contributes to viewing them as "difficult." A list of transference-countertransference paradigms will be discussed that contribute to the difficulty of work with abuse survivors, and clinical examples will be provided. This presentation will aslo discuss shared elements of psychotherapy across therapy schools of thought in work with suicidal patients.
